JUDAS: ACTS 1:9 AND BEYOND

As we continue to look in ( Acts 1 ), we see in ( verse 15 ) that Peter stood up and began to speak. The message he brings to the people in the room is all about Judas; the apostle that had killed himself. Here, I’m going to attempt to show why Jesus picked this man and, the need for him to be absent on this day. As you continue to read in this chapter, you will see that the people in this room did pick an apostle to replace Judas. We see that in ( verse 26 ) Look at what it says: And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Do you realize that this man is never mentioned again in scripture? Just on a spiritual note here; I’d like to make a comment. Any person that desires to be a member of a church can actually be voted on and, join that Church. We can say ( they are numbered ) with the members of that Church. However, that doesn’t mean that every memeber of ever Church is known or recognized by Jesus Christ does it? In order to be known by Christ, recognized by Christ, you must be born again. Church members might know you, even highly approve of you but, if you are not born again then you are not know of Christ.

The eleven remaining apostles of Jesus Christ was picked and selected by Jesus Christ himself. Man cannot pick and choose apostles, only Jesus can. Peter, being the man he was actually stepped outside his abilities here. He was suppose to wait ( for the promise ), and he got ahead of himself here. He brought a good message and, it was basically true but, he or, the members of that group did not have the authority to pick a replacement for Judas who fell.

We know from scripture that Judas’ fall was not surprize to Jesus Christ. He even said; ( that scripture might be fulfilled )( John 17:12 ) While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest meI have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. Actually, we could say that even Judas was ( numbered with the eleven ) because Jesus knew from the beginning what he would do.

What scripture was it that was fulfilled? I feel that this is worth studying. ( I believe ). I often put those two words ; set apart like that because I can’t prove everything I going to say from scripture. That doesn’t mean that it can’t be proved out but, I haven’t found the answer yet, maybe you can. I love to seek and find hidden wisdom and mysteries. ( 1 Corinthians 2:7 ) But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto his glory.

I often also use that verse of scripture to show that it takes the spirit of God to teach me and, every person that is willing to search out things in his word. Look at this verse of scripture. ( 1 Corinthians 1:27-28 ) But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; ( 28 ) And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: ( 29 ) That no flesh should glory in his presence.

God, on purpose; did not design his word for the world to understand. He designed it so that only the spirit within us, his spirit within us can see the things he wishes to reveal and, also we, even born again believers must have the desire to know him and his will. God’s desire is to use people to teach and, my prayer is that he can use me but, the true responsibility of any teacher is to stir the spirit within you and get you to search scripture that you may learn beyond what any teacher might teach, including me.

God the Father has the ability to use any person for his glory. That is proven in scripture. Even if you call youself and atheist; God will use you to your own demise. Now, look at this verse.( Acts 1:25 ) That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

Where was that place? Can we simply assume he went to hell? There are people that will say that; just becauce he hanged himself, he went to hell, is that correct? We see in the book of Judges another man; Samson that killed himself. He pushed two supports on a building and caused them to fall on him, did he also go to hell?

God, by his spirit desires that we see something here. It becomes our responsibility to search and find it, comparing scripture with scripture. As we continue to go through all of these things, we will seek answers to many questions but, let’s consider this: just how close can any person get to hell without actually going there? What do I mean by saying that? It’s almost like we are taught today that salvation, the simple fact of saying we believe in Jesus Christ causes us to be exactly where God wants us to be within his will and, while salvation is a good thing, it’s not all God desires from us.

As we teach through the book of Acts, we see the beginning of the will of God for this earth as it relates to the Church. We see Peter here making a decision, he was partly correct. Judas had fallen and he needed to be replaced but, it was not their responsibility to decide who that man would be.

I’d like to start this by giving what ( I believe ) to be the fulfilling of scripture that Jesus is speaking of in ( John 17:12 ). Peter says in ( Acts1:16 ) Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. It seems he was referring to ( Psalm 41:9 ) Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.

I see how this verse is possibly speaking about Judas but; I also believe it goes much deeper than that. ( I believe ) the true Church; those that are born again, all the way back to the beginning, are the spirit and the people that God truly desires to fellowship with. Flesh is simply a vessel. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the Nation of Israel or just the flesh of one indidivual that the spirit of God is alive in.( The Church ) is a call out group of people that represents the actual will of God, we are people that make it our purpose in life to do and seek his will and his will alone. That has been in the mind and heart of God from the very beginning of time. ( Revelation 13:8 ) And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

In this verse, he is speaking of the people that will be worshipping Satan; that is except those ( whose name are written in the book of life of the lamb slain from the foundation of the world ). I show you this verse just to make my point that; from the foundation of the world, it has been God’s desire to have people sell out their flesh to him, to seek to do his will. ( The Church ) is simply the final or last link in the unfolding of that in all of scripture.

We can see a picture of the whole concept of the Church all through the book of Genesis. That is because it has always been in the mind of God. It’s not intended to be easily seen but, it can be seen. This is were ( I believe ) we see the ( fulfilling of scripture ) mentiond by Jesus and by Peter in Acts. Abraham has one son after the promise of God. ( Isaac ) Isaac had two son ( Esau and Jacob ) Esau was ( after the flesh ) Jacob was ( the spirit man ) ( second born ) just a picture of you in your flesh and you being born again. That spirit man Jacob, had twelve sons. These twelve sons are the twelve tribes of Israel.

Now, let’s see what happens to these twelve sons. I’ll try to point out scripture for this. Do you remember when Jesus said this: ( Matthew 19:30 ) But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.

Joseph was the eleveneth son born to Jacob. At that time he was the last one born to Jacob. Now, look what Joseph said to his brothers. ( Genesis 37 ). I’ll just write this one verse but, you should read the whole account through the rest of this story. ( verse 5 ) And Josepth dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.

Joseph is a type of Jesus Christ. Just like Joseph, he was, as far as the riegn of Israel and the law was concerned; the youngest born. In other words, Jesus was born in the last years of the time of the law. Jesus was the ( fulfillment of the law ) As you read, you will see that Joseph’s brother left him for dead, even thought he was dead yet he became their savoir, just like Jesus Christ. As you keep studying, you will notice that when ( Israel ) the brethren of Joseph went to Egypt because of a famine, who did they find? Their youngest brother they thought was dead and also, they hated. At the time that Jesus Christ lived and was in Israel, they could not see their need for him but, there is a day coming they will see that need as a nation. But, before we get to that time; we must finish the ( age of grace ) which we live in now and, Israel must go through the ( seven years ) of tribulation period. At that time, Jesus will return. Just when Israel thinks it is no hope for them, Jesus Christ will return in the flesh and be their savior, meaning; the savior of that nation.

This next step is where ( I believe ) that the fall of Judas comes into the picture. With Judas being dead, that means it’s eleven apostles. So, who should that man be? As you continue to read in ( Genesis ) understanding this story, look at this verse ( Genesis 42:13 ) And they said, Thy servants are twelve brethren, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan: and, behold, the youngest is this day with our father, and one is not.

Joseph has just learned that he has a younger brother, his name is Benjamin. Within these twelve sons of Jacob is the whole picture of the unfolding of Israel and ( the Church ) the body of Christ. ( I believe ) that the death of Judas, no matter how we might look at it is a picture of what is being taught in the last part of Genesis.

When we look at the ( twelve apostles ). Each apostle was not picked from different tribes of Israel. We know this because some of them were brothers. The one that died ( Judas ) can be seen as a type of Joseph that was sold to Egypt and, after he was sold to Egypt, another was born ( Benjamin ). With that being a fact, who then is actually the ( apostle ) that will replace ( Judas ) that fell?

The fact that Joseph did not know his youngest brother Benjamin is a picture of the fact that Israel could not see the ( Church ) that Jesus Christ would die on the Cross for also and, that beyond the fact that he was the King Of Israel. All these things were hidden in the Old Testament. As I make these comparisons, I realize that there are many types that can be seen, even within a single person. For instance; Joseph in this instance can be see as God the Father or, God the Son. I realize that I don’t see it all, maybe you can but the fact that Joseph was in Egypt; assumed to be dead by his father and, another son, Benjamin was born without Joseph having that knowledge is a picture of Israel not being able to see the Church. In these Chapters in Genesis we can actually see Israel and the Church coming together, all because of Jesus Christ.

At this point in Acts, as we see these things unfold. At this point even Peter cannot see all that God is doing. Since we have brought Benjamin into this equation and tied him to the death of Judas, I feel this will be a good point to teach about what person it is that actually becomes to twelfth apostle. Since this fact actually takes place in to ( book of Acts ) and, it will be a while before we get to it , we’ll simple point out a few things about this man.

The twelfth apostle, the man that will set in judgement over the tribes of Israel ( the tribe of Benjamin ) will be the ( Apostle Paul ). I said he would judge ( Benjamin ) But I cannot prove that. I do however, know that he was from the tribe of Benjamin. ( Philippians 3:5 ) Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

The man we are speaking of is not even mentioned until ( Acts 7 ). Look at this verse ( 58 ) And they cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man’s feet, whose name was Saul. If you will notice in ( Acts 7 ) that Stephen mentioned this or, at least the twelve patriarchs in the message he preached just before he was stoned to death.

The next time we see Saul is in ( Acts 9 ). We can see him mentioned in ( Acts 8 ) but in ( Acts 9 ) is where we see that man actually speak to Jesus Christ and, excepts him as his personal Savior. One other thing I will mention about this man; Paul. ( Ephesians 3:3 ) How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; ( as I wrote afore in few words, ( 4 ) Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ )

You should make it a point to read that whole chapter but, I want you to see that: the picture of Benjamin not being known in Genesis or, known by Peter and the rest of the people in the upper room was made known to the Apostle Paul at the appointed time. As you read through the epistles written by the Apostle Paul, in almost everyone of them, in the very first few verses; he is trying to make the point that he is an apostle. Look at the first few verses in this book: ( Ephesians 1:1 ) Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of Go, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:

One of the most profound examples . I believe is seen in ( Galatians 1:1 Paul, an apostle,( not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead:)

Benjamin is a picture of ( The Church ) that is hidden in the Old Testament. The Apostle Paul is ( The Apostle ) to the Gentiles. ( Romans 11:13 ) For I speak to you Gentiles, insomuch as I am the apostle unto the Gentiles, I magnify my office: He, being the Apostle to the Gentiles was hidden in the very beginning.

I’m going to make a statement here and, you can take it for what it’s worth. Israel was no different than the average group of people in any local Church. They had their minds made up as far as what they excepted as truth and to whom it was to come from. They refused to see how God would allow Gentiles to come into the fold. They had a hard time believing the Apostle Paul was someone that Jesus Christ actually called to be a part of their ministry. Are we not the same way in our Churches and, what we except as truth? To whom we except that truth from?

The problem the Apostle Paul had and, we also have today is getting people to understand ( how to ) hear the Spirit of God as he speaks to their hearts and, also ( to move ) in the direction he is leading. It’s just like you reading what I’m writing here. You or, no one has to believe what I have to say but, allow God to teach you and show you what is truth. Once he becomes your teacher and, you learn to listen to him then, every person can be used to teach you right and wrong, That’s because you discern right from wrong as guided by God’s spirit and not by any man.

In ( Acts 1) a transition has begun. We will look a little deeper into this chapter and see if anything else needs to be pointed out. The transition from law to grace was a hard step, we still struggle with it today. This is something that many can’t understand. It’s much harder to live by grace than it is to keep the law. Living by law; people see you as being good but, grace has nothing to do with keeping the law but, a desire to hear the Spirit of God and, move in the direction he is leading.

Speaking of ( leading ). Look in ( Acts 1:14 ) These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

So, let’s assume here that every person that was there being; ( 120 ) people as seen in the next verse, was ( in one accord ) and ( praying ). I’m going to take this verse and start another segment. I can see something here that truly needs to be taught and understood. It’s not that it can be seen in this verse but, as we move forward in the ( Book of Acts ) it is something that truly will help us see the Church as it unfolds and, teach us the difference in the mindset of the people on that day and our mindset today.

Therefore, the next segment will be on ( Acts 1:14 ). We will call it ( Acts 1:14 / One Accord )

ACTS 1:9 AND BEYOND

( Verse 9-10 ) And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their sight. ( 10 ) And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; ( 11 ) Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing, up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

I can only imagine all the feeling, all the spectrum of emotion that these few people felt, can you? Here’s a man called Jesus Christ. These people have walked with him, talked with him for many years now. In the last few weeks they have seen him crucified, buried and, raised from the grave. Not only that; they have seen people come out of the graves, felt earthquakes, seen rocks rent, even the veil of the temple torn into, something that; to them was unheard of. You can read that account in ( Matthew 27: 50-54 ). Now, they stand and watch as this same man is simply lifted up into heaven.

As I read about these things and try to imagine just how these people felt I wonder, just how were things just before the birth of Christ? We know Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist was struck dumb just before his birth but, what about the hundreds of years before these events? Just how much did things happen of this nature before the birth of Christ? The point I’m making is that I believe that the period of time just before Christ was much like it is now, that is; as far as life just being normal.

If we seek to place ourselves with these people on that day, we would probably be gazing up into heaven as well because it was not a natural event. It wasn’t something that happened everyday. Even as they stood there it says that two men in white apparel came and, also spoke to them. Just how strange would that be? I say all this to make the points that need to be made in the next few verses. If you remember, Jesus had told them ( not to leave Jerusalem ) ( and wait ) for the promise of the Father.

Now, let’s look at a verse of scripture here. ( 2 Peter 3:8 ) But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. When Jesus was speaking with them, at any time; they didn’t realize how God looked at time. I say these things to try and relate to these people and their actions in the next few verses. I can see their faith exploding within them and the great anticipation as they went through the next ten days waiting. ( I believe ) that it would be a great attribute to the Church if we sought to prepare ourselves for his coming again like these people did. It might have been ( ignorant faith ) but at least it caused them to move and prepare. They could not see what would transpire over the next few days and years of their lives but, neither can any of us, can we? They we so excited about the return of Christ that they made some mistakes in judgment. They had no idea it would be over two thousand years before he would return, at least in a bodily form.

I’m going to try to finish this chapter in this segment so, let’s back up a little and think about something. In ( verse 5 ) Jesus Christ tells them that they shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. In ( Matthew 28 ) he also tells them to go, and baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and, the Holy Ghost. First of all, did they understand what he was saying? Can you explain what he is saying, even today? Consider, just because something is said;does not mean you understand all it is saying.

While questions of this nature might seem very insignificant and, maybe, to some degree; doesn’t matter, it does give us insight to some things we might need to consider today. I say, it’s worth looking into. First of all, one of the other disciples should have stood up and stated; we need not do anything right now, Jesus instructed us to ( wait ) for the promise of the Father. However, we know that Peter often stepped out in front as he did here. We see that all through the gospels. While I’m speaking of this; let me point something out. ( John 13:23 ) Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. ( 24 ) Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.

I’ve often wondered here why Peter didn’t ask Jesus, they were all sitting in the same room. ( I believe ) that it makes a point of whom is closest to Jesus. That; in a spiritual sense. Can you see what I’m saying? I also believe that the disciple leaning on the bosom of Jesus was John. That same John was in the upper room with Peter when Peter began to speak in the upper room that day. That’s just a thought. I do however believe that Peter made another mistake in judgment on this day about picking a disciple to replace Judas. I’ll try to give you my reasoning here and, you can allow the spirit of God direct you as you read.

Since I mentioned Judas here, let’s start with him. Judas will be the topic of discussion in the next few verses. He was picked to be an Apostle of Jesus Christ. He also told the location of Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. We see that in ( Matthew 26:15 ) In ( Matthew 27:5 ) we see that he went out and hanged himself. One of the first questions here might be; just why did Jesus pick him? Jesus, knowing all things would have known this. ( I believe ) there’s a spiritual answer to all things. We just have to study, under the inspiration of God’s Spirit to be albe to see those things. Just as we used the book of Leviticus to show the ( day of Pentecost ); we can also seek the answer to this in the Old Testament. I can’t say that I have found it, other than to say ( that scripture might be fulfilled. ( John 17: 12 ) Jesus called Judas ( the son of perdition ). He also said that he lost him. Why? That scripture might be fulfilled.

In ( Acts 1:15 ) we see that Peter began to speak. Why Peter? As we go through these verses, we will see that Peter’s primary concern was the fact that Judas had fallen and, in Peter’s mind, they needed to pick a man to replace him. Peter was always doing things of this nature. If you remember; when they were on the ship and they seen Jesus walking on the water, it was Peter that walked out to meet him. ( Matthew 14:26 ). It was Peter, when they came to take Jesus that cut off the man’s ear. ( John 18: 10 ). Of all of the Apostles of Jesus; Peter, James and John were the names we see most mentioned in the gospels and always in that order if they are named together. When Jesus took Peter, James and John up on the mount of tranfiguration and they seen Moses and Elias, it was Peter that wanted to make three tabernacles. ( Matthew 17:4 ).

In all these cases, I don’t believe it was under any kind of authority that he is speaking or doing the things he was doing and, that; even here in ( Acts 1 ). That being said, it is in scripture and, it’s here for our instruction and to teach us. The Bible says in ( Roman 8:28 ) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.

Therefore, when we have scripture, such as we see in ( Acts 1 ) then, if or since we love God, it works together for our good. Everything Peter did, worked for good for those that love God.

So, now we’ve seen two things that we need to look into in this segment. ( 1 ) Judas hanging himself and needing to be replaced and, ( 2 ) Is it Peter that should be talking or making this dicision?

I’d like to finish this segment on the fact that Peter was speaking, right or wrong or, both. In the next segment I’ll devote the whole segment to Judas and why his death transpired and, to whom the man is that took his place. It’s all relevant and, not one thing is a mistake.

God has the ability to use people just like they are for his glory, even lost sinners and, people that aren’t actually willing to help the cause of Christ. I’m reminded of Pharaoh in Exodus. Moses told him that God said to let his people go. Pharaoh refused to do so. God used his defiance for his own demise and, for God’s glory. Even the twelve patriarchs, the sons of Jacob, those sons chose to destroy one of their own, Joseph and, God used it for his glory.

Peter was a man that was very out spoken and, often moved without considering who it was that was guiding him. He often caused himself trouble because of simply who he was. We could argue that we all are just like Peter. If you remember, Jesus told them to go to Jerusalem and ( WAIT ) for the promise. Here, in the last part of ( Acts 1 ) we see Peter speaking but, he didn’t wait for that promise. Yet, Peter being who he was, rushed to do things because of the knowledge he had learned from Jesus. In Peter’s mind, Christ would do just what he said he would do, just as the two men dressed in white apparel said he would do. He would return. The problem is ( WHEN ). Peter thought that since Jesus had commanded them to go to Jerusalem and wait that in just a few days he would be returning to set up his kingdom right there in Jerusalem.

The most important aspect of understanding scripture is the Holy Spirit of God within you. Without that spirit, we all will make common mistakes in judgment and that, even by of our spiritual leaders. If you will notice, in this chapter the majority of the people took sides with Peter. They listened to what Peter had to say and, they all appeared to have voted without any argument about what actually needed to happen. Do you see how easy it is to simply listen to people and, go along with what they think?

Peter knew at least two things that were for certain. First of all, he knew that in the Kingdom of Heaven, Jesus would need all twelve of his Apostles. We know this because of ( Matthew 19: 27-28 ) Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? ( 28 ) And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That they which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

The second fact that Peter knew was that Jesus had told them that he would have the ( Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven ) ( Matthew 16:18-19 ) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. ( 19 ) And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Let’s also add the next two verses in to make a profound point. ( Matthew 16: 20-21 ) Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was the Jesus Christ. ( 21 ) From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and to be killed, and raised again the third day.

This account was given before the crucifixion. We know that after the crucifixion that Jesus told them to ( Go and teach all nations ). ( Matthew 28:19 ) Therefore, something changed, did they understand all of that. I would say, no and, it would take the coming of the Holy Ghost to help them see it. However, Peter did know these things, he just moved a little to soon.

As we continue to look at these things we will see and know the truth. In the next segment I’ll look into ( Judas and, why Jesus chose him, knowing he would fall. That doesn’t mean I’ll be correct but, it will give you something to consider and you, guided by the Holy Spirit; you can decide whether I’m correct or not. ( JUDAS: ACTS 1:9 ) AND BEYOND.

STUDY IN ACTS: ( ACTS 1:8 )

As I teach through this book, I truly believe that an understanding of the concepts in Acts is the beginning of spiritual knowledge in the age to which we live. We hear very little about ( dispensationalism ). That simply means that God the Father dealt with mankind in different ways starting with Adam and Eve. For example: In the Garden of Eden; Adam and Eve were instructed not to partake of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. That tree is not here today is it? Actually that was the first dispensation. It began with the commandment and ended when Adam and Eve had to leave the Garden of Eden.

Jesus Christ was born during the ( dispensation of Law ) That dispensation started when God handed down the commandments to Moses and, ended when Jesus died on the Cross of Calvary. Again, this is another study but, if you would like to research this then, a good place to start is in ( Matthew 27:51 ) ( verse 50 ) says: Jesus, when he had cried with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. Now, notice ( verse 51 ) And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

The veil that he speaks of there was the veil of the temple. The only person that could go behind that veil was the High Priest, once a year. to offer a sacrifice for the sins of the people. When Jesus Christ gave up the ghost, he became our High Priest. Now, any man or person that has a desire to speak with God the Father can go right up to the very throne of grace and speak directly to the Father; through the blood of Jesus Christ. The age or ( dispensation of law has passed and, now we live in the ( dispensation of Grace.

The book of Acts is that transitional period from the ( Age of Law ) to the ( Age of Grace ). Most people that have any knowledge of scripture realize that Jesus Christ will return at some point. I am looking for his return any day, any minute. The very moment he returns, the ( Age of Grace will end and, another Age will begin. We call it ( Tribulation period ) . I will last about seven years and, there is a reason for that length of time. Again, all this is a whole different study.

Right now, in ( Acts 1:8 ) Jesus Christ, our Savior, the one that gave his life so this age could start and exist is speaking to his apostles and disciples just before he leaves to go and sit at the right hand of the Father, instructing them. This is the last thing that is recorded that he said before he was taken up. ( Acts 1:8 ) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth.

I’ve mentioned this verse before but, I’d say we need to see it again here. ( John 6:45 ) It is written in the prophets, and they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

I write that verse here to say this: these people were standing there and, heard Jesus speaking but, did they learn what he was saying? Did they pay attention to what he was saying? Would you agree with me that often, even when we read scripture, our mind is somewhere else, even when we sit in Church and the pastor is speaking, we don’t hear what he is saying. Do you agree with that?

I’ll take it a step farther. Even when we read or listen to our pastor. we still don’t allow or won’t allow the very Spirit of God to speak to our hearts and direct our actions or paths. I still contend that ( the most difficult thing you will ever learn to do ) is to hear the Spirit of God and, yield to what he is saying. What he is telling you to do.

Here, in ( Acts 1:8 ) A risen Jesus Christ is speaking to these disciples. In the Old Testament, God the Father spoke directly to men or people. At that time he placed His Spirit upon whom he pleased. It became the responsibility of that person to say what God told him to say and, the responsibility of men to hear that voice. In the gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, God the Son spoke directly to man or people. We see here; God the risen son speaking to people. He is informing them that he is leaving but, just as he said, he would send a comforter to them and, for them to wait for him to come. He also told them in this verse that ( when they had received him ) they would be witnesses to all men.

The next few verse we see where he was taken up and, we have already discussed this but, this is where we need to see what they actually did. However, I want to point out what Jesus said here and, also the way or the outline of how it is to unfold. I’ll confess. If I would have been standing there on that day, listening to Jesus, there’s no way I would have understood all he was saying either. With that being said, we do know this: Jesus Christ came to ( his own people ) and, they rejected him. He came to the Jew first.

I’m going to say something now that ( I believe ) but, I also know that it was all within God’s plan for the salvation of the world. When Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem, he was the rightful King Of Israel. He, in that sense, came to Israel or ( his people ) first. Even in ( Verse 8 ) we see that the message is to Jerusalem first, then Judaea, then Samaria, then to the uttermost parts. Even after Jesus Christ has risen, he is instructing them to began their witnessing at Jerusalem, around Jerusalem and go to other people.

This is what ( I believe ). God the Father, in the body of Jesus Christ gave the Nation of Israel every chance possible to except Jesus Christ as their Messiah, as their rightful King. Even after Jesus was resurrected, if you will study at least the first nine chapters of Acts, the message is still to the Nation of Israel. ( Acts 13:46 ) Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

All the way to this point, the Nation of Israel still had the opportunity to, as a nation, except Jesus as their Messiah and King but, I believe, at this point, it’s too late. Why is this significant? Just as an humble Bible student, I want to try and show you the significant value of this however, what really stands out to me is that it’s not taught to us in our local Churches. In my heart, education and understanding is the most powerful tool it is. I’m not talking about a college degree or higher education but, I’m speaking of the ability of a teacher, a pastor, these types of people using everything spiritually at their disposal to bring the word of God to light in the hearts and minds of the people they say they love. I believe this can happen in a spirit filled Church and, with simply praying, studying and desiring to know what God has in store for those that love him.

I want you to know, I have the greatest love and respect for the Nation of Israel. I know that God will grant them every promise that he promised them. However, that doesn’t change what the word of God teaches and how it all came about. That is something that God’s children, in his Churches needs to understand for their own spiritual future and how they stand before God. I want to give you an example. If you, as a child have normal intelligence and your parents send you to good schools with good teachers, all for free, no cost to you but, you refuse to listen or learn, then whose fault is that?

However, if the teachers are no good and, your parents don’t care then, whose to blame? In a spiritual sense, God the Father is the teacher. He sent his Spirit to live in the heart of every believer and, he even sent pastors, with that same spirit within them to be the spiritual teacher. Now, if the teacher will not listen to God the Father and, teach what he demands, whose to blame? The problem with that is, although the teacher might be to blame, who is it that is truly hurt? Aren’t the children left in darkness because of our unconcern?

Just as a simple man with a passion to teach scripture, what kind of person would I be if I leave you in darkness? What kind of person is it that doesn’t give his all for someone else? If I teach kindergarten and, I don’t do all I can to prepare you for the first grade, what does that make me? Even if you, as my student, loves me because I fed you candy the whole year, are you better off for my neglect?

Now, let’s get back to the verse. When Jesus gave instruction for his apostles and disciples to be witness to the world, wasn’t he speaking to me as well? Even as we go through the book of Acts and, we see mistakes that these people made, does that grant me the right to make the same mistakes or, should I learn from what I am taught in the New Testament? I say, I should learn from what I can learn from the Spirit of God from the whole counsel of God.

God the Father told Abraham back in ( Genesis 12 ) that he was going to make him the father of a great nation. He did just what he said he would do. Abraham had one son after the promise; Isaac. Out of his loins came forth the Nation of Israel. From the birth of Israel to the beginning of the New Testament or the death, burial and resurrection of Christ was around 2000 years. That means that God dealt with His chosen people ( Israel ) in different ways and at different times for all those years. ( Hebrews 1:1 ) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in times past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Now, look at the next verse: ( verse 2 ) Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds,

This book, the book of Hebrews, is written to the children of Israel, it’s also a blessing to us because it’s in the word of God. God, here is telling them he has spoken to them in different ways and at different times. The problem is; they would not heed to what he desired for them to do. In the days, just before this book was written , he even tells them he spoke to them by his son, they still didn’t hear or seek God’s will. So, where are they now?

I stated that, even after the resurrection of Christ and, we even read a verse that verifies that Jesus Christ still was willing to allow the Nation of Israel to have one more chance to seek after his will and be obedient to his call however, they still refused. When I speak of this: I speaking of Israel as a nation, not individuals. God’s desire was to have the whole nation to be obedient to him, to follow him.

Look at this verse in the gospels: ( Luke 14: 16-18 ) Then he said unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: ( 17 ) And sent his servants at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. ( 18 ) And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him. I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

If you finish reading these verse, they all made excuses; so what did the man do? Look in ( verse 23 ) And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

Do you realize that from the very beginning of the Nation of Israel they could have possessed the whole world? All they had to do was to listen to and obey God the Father. Here, in these verses we see that; they would not, therefore God turned to the Gentiles. Whosoever will can come.

So, where does that leave Israel? That is, more than likely a question most people never even consider. God promised Israel that they would inherit the earth. God the Father will keep that promise. As I write these things , we must remember that, even as individuals; what we do for Christ is choice. That is a fact now and, always has been whether we are talking about Israel, the Church or simply an individual. I realize that all we see, in every situation is all within the spectrum of ( God’s unfolding plan ). However, that does not mean that we don’t have a choice. God put opportunities out in front of us and we still have to make a choice. I understand that God already knows the outcome before we even make a decision, but that’s because he is God. Do you realize that nothing has ever occurred to God? He already knows the answers and exactly how the end results will be.

When God began to unfold the plans for this world; he already knew what people would do. When, in the beginning he placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, he new what they would do but, the choice was there’s to make. History is a great teacher. If we don’t look at what has already happened then, our ignorance will play a great part in what we do know. That is the reason I feel compelled to write and teach all this in the verse we are looking into in ( Acts 1:8 ). If we can grasp the opportunities Israel had and, also see where she will end up because of her choices then we can learn as people not to make the same mistakes.

I believe one of the greatest tools of Satan in this world today is ignorance. If he, by whatever means; can keep men from teaching truth then the very fact that we are ignorant and unaware of what God expects of us will put us and, many other people in a bad place when we stand before God. Therefore, I’m going to take the time to show you this picture before we move on and, watch the ( Church age ) unfold right here in the ( Book of Acts ).

Just how important is ( flesh ) to God the Father. That is, the flesh you and I live in or the flesh of a whole nation or, the flesh of the Church, the body of Christ? Jesus Christ also, was a body of flesh. A significant point here is that Jesus Christ completely yielded his body to the will of God. From the very beginning that is what God wanted ( in the body ) of the nation of Israel. A body; totally yielded to his will.

So, to answer the question about the importance of flesh to God the Father would be to say that flesh is only importand to him as it yields itself to his will. If any body of flesh will not do that, then it’s of no value to God the Father. The Nation of Israel, the body that God choose to do his will, to fulfil his desires to this world refused to listen to what he said. However, God had made promises to that nation. God always keeps his promises. That fact is and, always will be true. God made promises to Israel, he made promises to the Church and, he also made promises to those that believe, being part of the Church, the body of Christ.

At the point that we are studying, the Church is just beginning. At this point Israel, as a nation is being, what I would call ( being placed on a shelf for a season ). ( Romans 11:25 ) For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.( 26 ) And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: ( 27 ) For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins. ( 28 ) As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for you sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the father’s sakes. ( 29 ) For the gifts and calling are without repentance.

I wrote all that to show you that God hasn’t forgotten Israel. They were cut off, so to speak that we as memebers of the Church might be grafted in. At the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as far as God the Father is concerned; ended a stage. Look at at this verse: ( Daniel 9:24 ) Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. ( 25 ) Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troubleous times.

These weeks mentioned here are periods of seven years. so, seven weeks is ( 49 years ). A score is ( twenty years ) three score would be ( 60 ) and two weeks. If you add this up it is ( 69 weeks ) This means ( one week ) is left. The last week is what we call ( tribulation period ). I will occur at the end of the Church age which actually has no time period other than in the mind od God the Father.

In ( Acts ), we are looking at the end of one age and, the beginning of another. As we see this transformation, even after Jesus Christ was taken up in ( Verse 9 ). The point is the Nation of Israel still had the first opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ after the resurrection of Christ and, after he was taken up to sit at the right hand of the father. Now, we are speaking of Israel as a nation, not as ( individual Jews ). Today the message is to ( whosoever will ) let him come.

From the very beginning, its always been a message and a willingness to surrender your flesh to the will and voice of God. The word of God is all about that picture. Look at this verse: ( Romans 9:13 ) As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. The whole picture we see here is about that one concept. God the father does not actually hate any person. It’s about what is first and what is last. If you look at it from your own personal experience it becomes easier to understand. I was born in my flesh first, then I was born of the spirit. God deals with the Spirit man in me. We could change and say; ( My flesh has God hated but, my spirit he loves.

I’ve already stated that the Nation of Israel will inherit this earth and, Jesus will be the King. The member of the body of Christ, born again believers, ( the Church ) will live in a place suspended between heave and earth. The city of gold. We can read about that place in ( Revelation 21 ).

I realize this can be seen as very deep and, it is but, to simply read over a verse like this and not study it out, not seek to find answers to these things would be sin on any teacher’s part. Any person that is born again will have a passion to learn this just like I, as a teacher. I can’t say I can understand it all but, I can teach what I know and, you can build on what I teach.

Let’s look at this verse and we’ll close this segment out. ( Matthew 28:18-20 ) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. ( 19 ) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: ( 20 ) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

When we look at these verses and also the verse we are studying where Jesus is telling Jews to ( go and teach all nations ). In ( Acts 1:8 ) he also points out that he wants them to teach in Jerusalem, Judaea, Samaria and to the uttermost parts of the earth.

These people, Jews, were people that were taught that it was all about them, Jesus was their King. What do you think they thought about this command? We are leaving one ( dispensation ) going into another. I can see how this would be hard to comprehend for any people. While studying, and watching scripture unfold; there are at least eight different dispensations or, different ways that God the Father dealt with mankind. We can see those things in scripture. The dispensation of grace, which is the Church age or, the age we live in at the present is ( in my mind ) the fifth dispensation with at least two more to be seen.

I’ll try and bring this to a close by saying this. As we go through the book of Acts we’ll see a transition from God dealing with the nation of Israel to the same God calling all men to be saved. Which, in reality; has always been by faith. Even in the Old Testament if someone other than a Jew believed God by faith, then God excepted that. For instance; Niether Noah or Abraham were Israelites but, they both believed God.

My passion in all of this is to open the spiritual eyes of those that might read it. Now for some two thousand years we been experiencing the calling out of the Church. It started in ( Acts 2 ) Are we not facing the same mindset that Israel fell into. Israel believed that ( Just because ) they were Jews, that made them God’s people, as far as being where God wanted them to be. Today many people believe that ( Just because ) they join a Church, that puts them where God desires for them to be. Both mindsets are wrong. While both are important parts of God’s plan for salvation, it’s the change in the heart that God is looking for.

One other point to think about and we will move on. It’s always the ( second born ) or birth that matters to God the Father. For instance; Adam was first but, it was that second Adam that God honored which is Jesus Christ. ( 1 Corinthians 15:45 ) And so it is written, The first man Adam was aliving soul; the last Adam was a quickening spirit. We are the very same way. We are born in our fleshly bodies and, them we are born of the spirit of God. The same picture is within the creation of Israel and then the Church. Both are inportant parts of God’s handy work. In essence, the Church was able to be born because of the nation of Israel. As an individual, God’s spirit has a vessel because of my flesh. However, without our willingness to allow God’s Spirit to work through any vessel then what good is the vessel. Israel is no good to God unless that nation allows God to speak through it. The Church is no good unless it allows God to be seen in it. I, myself, am worthless to God the Father unless I allow God the Spirit to speak through me. That is the whole picture in a nutshell.

So, again; where will Israel end up? I’ve already stated that the Nation of Israel will inherit the earth and, the body of Christ, ( the Church ) will live above the earth in a city made of gold. The earth will be the footstool of God. I’ll show you a couple of verses.

( Mark 12:36 ) For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

( Acts 7:49 ) Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: what house will you build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?

Again, that place of rest was offered to the Jews first. Even in the beginning of the Church age, it was to the Jew first. This earth was going to always be ( God’s footstool ). Jesus said: I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. ( John 14:3 )

Jesus was not only talking to Israel there but to whosoever allows his spirit to work through their flesh. Can you see, it’s not about The Nation of Israel, The Church building, or even the flesh we live in. It’s about a vessel that chooses to allow God to speak through it, whatsoever that might be.

It is actually no end to the study of that concept however, it was to Jerusalem first, then Judaea, then Samaria and, the uttermost parts of the earth. So, we shall move on to ( Acts 1:9 and beyond ).

THE BOOK OF ACTS: CHAPTER 1: VERSE 2-3

Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandment unto the apostles whom he had chosen: ( 3 ) To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of god:

In the last segment of this study, I realize we mentioned ( the kingdom of God ). However it’s a lot to be seen in just these two verses. So therefore, I’ll try and point them out.

Let’s start with the forty days. Why was it ( forty days )? I’d like to try and prove a point here. We can see the whole picture of the word of God unfolding in the ( feasts ) mentioned or taught in ( Leviticus ). Those events are recorded in ( Leviticus 23 ). The first is ( Passover ) and the last is ( Atonement ) in ( verse 27 ) of ( Chapter 23 ).

The whole Picture is there however, we want to look at what pertains to our study. If you read in ( Leviticus 23: 16 ) Even unto the morrow after the seventh Sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat- offering unto the Lord.

We see in our study that he was with them ( forty days ). Now if we move forward to ( Acts 2:1 ) It says this: ( And when the day of Pentecost was fully come ). We know by studying Leviticus that this; the fully coming of Pentecost, was ten days after Jesus was taken up from them. We know this because ( Pentecost was ( 50 days ) after the ( feast of firstfruits ) meaning the resurrection of Christ. WE see that in ( Leviticus 23:9-14 ). When we read in ( Acts 1:2 ) where he was taken up, we can also continue to study through ( Acts 1: 11 ) and see the whole event as it unfolds. This is also mentioned in ( Luke 24:51 ) And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

At the end of these forty days that Jesus walked among them and, was seen by many. At one place in scripture it says he was seen by as many as 500 at one time. ( 1 Corinthians 15:6 ) After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some have fallen asleep.

This period of time was after Jesus Christ had been crucified and raised from the grave. Here, in Corinthians, the Apostle Paul is pointing out that most of the people that had seen him after the resurrection was still alive to bear witness of that event.

In ( Acts 1; 2 ) the risen Christ gave commands to his apostles, the chosen ones. Here’s a man that has been crucified, to which they witnessed and now he is alive forever more, standing there giving commands to the men he had walked with. Don’t you think or, would you agree with me that these men should have taken heed to what he said? That statement is made at the end of ( verse 2 ). Now, look at what it says next. ( Verse 3 ) To whom also he shewed himself alive ( AFTER HIS PASSION ) by many infallible proofs. What do you think was meant by that statement?

I’m going to say something here that ( I believe ) but, I can’t prove therefore, it’s up to you how you take what I’m about to say. At this time eleven of the Apostles were present with Jesus and, were observing ( these infallible proofs ). Judas, one of the Apostles had hanged himself before this event took place. I have already pointed out that the phrase ( kingdom of heaven ) was only mentioned in ( Matthew ). All through the rest of the gospels it’s referred to the same way that it is in this verse. ( the kingdom of God ). That kingdom was: ( the passion of Christ ). That is the reason he came into this world. Although he was the rightful King of the Jews, he was not born to be King at that time. ( John 18:37 ) Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into this world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

This is the point I’d like to make. I believe that Jesus, speaking with his apostles within these forty days was speaking and, explaining to them ( things that would pertain to the ( kingdom of God ). but, in the minds of the apostles they were so sure that he would set up his kingdom at that time; ( the kingdom of heaven ) that they didn’t hear what he was actually saying. It would take time for them to see all he was saying and, the Spirit that would come upon would guide them to all truth. ( John 16:13 ) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The purpose of Jesus Christ was to come and give his life for the Church, for those that would believe. He, himself began to teach his apostles and disciples but, the greater responsibility of teaching would be done by the Spirit of God that would come and live within them and, also in each of us that believe.

It’s almost like studying scripture. If we have a mindset of what we want or desire to see then, we don’t let the spirit of God direct us as we read. We simply don’t listen to him but, allow ourselves to be taught of men.

Let me give you an example, one that we see here. Look at this verse ( Acts 1:4-5 ) And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but ( WAIT ) for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. ( 5 ) For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

We know they didn’t leave Jerusalem but, they didn’t wait on that promise either. Jesus said that he had spoken to them about the promise of the Holy Ghost. Look at this: ( John 16: 7 ) Nevertheless I tell you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

You can read the next few verses as well. What I’m saying is that Jesus was telling them things that pertained to the Holy Ghost and his coming but, they didn’t hear it all, nor did they understand at that time. We can find other places where Jesus was telling them about the Spirit of God; the Holy Spirit or Ghost but, it takes more than just hearing him to understand what he is actually saying. ( In my opinion ) there are many people today that still don’t understand the concept of God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit. I can’t say that any of us completely understand it but, I do believe it is a subject that needs to be studied and taught to people in our Churches.

Just as it was hard for Jesus, while he walk this earth to get his apostles and disciples to understand the concept of ( His Spirit ) living within the fleshly body of any person, people with a passion to teach that concept have the same problem today. It even goes beyond understanding the concept to learning to hear him when he speaks and then, moving in the direction he tells us to go.

Remember, he told them to ( not depart from Jerusalem ) and ( wait ). As we go through this whole chapter; these two things will be prevalent. If we are to understand the concept of the Church and how and why it came about we must see these things.

I feel that it’s important to stop here and point out something. In the last part of ( Acts 1:3 ) Luke mentions: ( things pertaining to the ( Kingdom of God ). Luke also said in ( Luke 1:3 ) that he had ( perfect understanding of all things from the very first ). Here, he mentions the ( Kingdom of God ) therefore we have to assume he understood the concept to which Jesus was speaking of. So, what is the difference in ( the Kingdom of Heaven ) and ( the Kingdom of God )? There is a distinct difference and, we need to see that difference right here.

Let’s start with this: ( Matthew 3:2 ) ( And saying, Repent ye: for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand ). This is the message that ( John the Baptist ) preached. The nation of Israel had been looking for the Messiah for a long time. John the Baptist was the for runner of Jesus Christ. That whole subject is a lesson for another day but, we can clearly see that in Luke as we watch the birth of Jesus Christ unfold.

Today, as we study through this and, it always has taken a desire, a passion to know and understand the scriptures. Even as far back as Genesis, we can see the concept of the Church. I believe that there have been people with that passion, the passion to know God, to walk with him as long as this world has been. ( I believe ) that there are people today with that passion but, we are simply not being taught these concepts and, it’s difficult to see without someone to teach us. I’ll just use Luke as an example. I can see how he had studied and, realized things in scripture even before the birth of Jesus Christ. He even writes about a man that had the same passion. ( Luke 2:25 ) And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was upon him. ( 26 ) And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s child. This man Simeon, was a man with a passion to know, to understand. It says the Holy Ghost was upon him. Every born again believer has that same spirit upon them today. Every person that is born again underswtands that its’ something more than just this physical life. There is eternity to gain. The whole concept of eternal life is within our understand and that, while we are here in our flesh. It just has to be studied and, sought to understand.

I often wonder, did this man teach Luke? Did Luke have a true desire, passion to listen to this man as he shared what he had learned in scripture? Do you remember how Moses lead the Children of Israel out of slavery in Egypt? Well, the nation of Israel are controlled by the Romans now and they are looking for the Messiah to come and set them free. Jesus Christ was the Messiah that was to come but, He came for a greater cause than to simply set Israel free. Now, consider this; If Jesus Christ just simply set Israel free from their bondage to the Romans then, what would have happened when all the people in Israel at that time died? When, in the sense of our flesh dying, when Jesus died a physical death? The point is, that even Kings, in the flesh, die. Jesus Christ came and was the rightful King of the Jews but, that’s not the reason he was born was it?

Now, let’s move down to ( Acts 1:11 ). Notice this. ( Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

I wrote that verse because I wanted to make this point. When he tells them that Jesus will return in like manner, just how long do you think, they thought that would be? ( My personal opinion ) is that they thought it would be just a few days or weeks. They never dreamed it would be over two thousand years before he would return. They could not see the concept of the Church, the very reason that Jesus Christ was born, lived, was cricified and rose again. Now, let’s go back a few verses: ( verse 6 ) When they therefore were come together, they asked him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the KIngdom of Israel? The KIngdom of Israel is ( by definition ) The Kingdom of Heaven. Now, look at how he answered them. ( verse 7 ) And he said unto them, it is not for you to to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

With this verse I’m going to close this segment of teaching out and start again with what Jesus tells them in the next verse or two. However, can you see how that; although these men were apostles and, disciples that actually walked with Jesus Christ, they were still just people like we are. They, like us often have selective hearing and pre- conceived notions about things. We hear and see what we want to hear and see. Often, we believe what we choose to believe without truly allowing the Holy Spirit of God to teach us all things.

Although Jesus just told them that it was not for them to know the times or the seasons that was within the power of the Father; in their minds and hearts, this was what they desired and what they thought. They never even considered what he was telling them. As we go through the next verses and even a few chapters, I’ll try and point out some things that we seldom ever even consider but, it’s right here in scripture.

God will restore the Kingdom of Israel and, Jesus Christ will be their KIng forever. When this takes place, the people will truly know that he is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I want to say this to make a point. If you are ( of the Jewish faith ) then you must be born into that family. Any Gentile can join ( the jewish faith ) but they are not Jewish just because they join that faith. It’s actually the same way with joining a Church. Ye must be born again to be a member of God’s family. Simply joining a Church does not make you a member of God’s fsmily, you must be born again.

Jesus Christ is not the KIng of the Gentiles nor, the KIng of the Church. He will be KIng of the Jews one day but, he is espoused to be the gridegroom of the Church, the body of Christ. The Jews will inherit the earth, the Church will live in a city above this earth, our home, 1500 square miles of a city made of gold.

Here, in this study we are not even considering that. The Apostles and the disciples on this day when Jesus was instructing them, as we will see in the next segment; was telling them to build that body, the rest is yet to be seen and understood.

The next part, we will start with ( Acts 1:8 )

TEACHING THE BOOK OF ACTS

As we look at this; is it necessary to teach the whole book of Acts or, can I simply get you started and then allow the Spirit of God to direct you as we go forward?

Look at ( Acts 1:1-2) The former treatise have I made, O’ Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, ( 2 ) Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commands unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

As we begin and, look at these two verses, we need to, first of all, realize who is doing the speaking. Who actually wrote the Book of Acts? I don’t know that it actually matters however, it is all relative. It’s a continual study. We have to compare scripture with scripture to move forward spiritually. Simply reading scripture is not the proper way to know who Jesus is. The word of God is not written that way. As a matter of fact, it is written so that only those that are spiritual ( born of his spirit ) can understand it. All that means is that you have to be a child of God and, also have a desire to know. ( 1 Corinthians 2:14 ) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

So, as we read these first two verses in Acts; what is it that causes us to have the desire to know ( who is doing the speaking )? The natural man will simply read right by these verses and never question any part of what is being said but, the spirit that lives within us causes us to desire to know more than just the words that are written.

Let’s see if we can find out just who is speaking here. ( Luke 1:1-4 ) Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, ( 2 ) Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word: ( 3 ) It seemed good for me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, ( 4 ) That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou has been instructed.

It appears that ( the Book of Acts ) is a continuation of what Luke was teaching to a man called Theophilus. It’s one point that stands out to me about Luke, He says that ( he has a perfect understanding of all things from the very first ). That is a very powerful statement. Now, I realize that God used certain men like Luke, the Apostle Paul and others to do certain things in scripture but, just how much can we know if we truly seek to know all things? These people had the spirit of God within them. They were used; by God the Father to pen down his word but, we have that same spirit now living within us, do we not? Since God used men to pen it down, men with his spirit within them, why can’t that same spirit teach us to understand what has been written? Our only weakness is our flesh. When we yield our flesh to his will then, God can teach us all things that he desires for us to know.

Consider this; wasn’t Luke teaching Theophilus? Therefore, wasn’t it the responsibility of Theophilus to learn what Luke was teaching him; having a perfect understanding?

As I desire to teach you. doesn’t it become your responsibility to seek to know what I’m teaching, listening the Spirit of God, even beyond what I might say?

In researching the name ( Theophilus ) I find it no where else in scripture but when it is mentioned in Luke and Acts. Therefore, I also find that the name ( Theophilus ) means ( friend of God ) in Greek. Again, therefore, is it possible that Luke is writing to any person that considers themselves to be a ( friend of God )? Would that be; you and I?

In closing this part out, I would like to point something out about the gospels. ( Matthew ) reveals Jesus Christ as the ( King of the Jews ). We find his lineage in Matthew by to King David. ( Mark ) reveals Jesus as the ( servant to man ). A servant has no lineage, not one that is important at any rate therefore, we see no lineage in Mark. ( Luke ) the book we are looking or referring to, reveals Jesus Christ as the ( son of Man ). We see a lineage here back to Adam, that is; how he relates to us. Thus, the name of ( Theophilus ). Not only does Jesus Christ relate to Luke but, he relates to all of mankind if we are willing to hear what he has to say. Last of all is ( John ). In this gospel he is revealed as the Son of God, here we see no lineage because God has no beginning or end, no family tree.

As he continues in ( Verse 1 ); he says ( Thing Jesus both did and taught ). When we consider the things he taught, what might that be? I’d like to make reference here of a point that needs to be made. Did you realize that the term ( Kingdom of Heaven ) is only found in the gospel of Matthew? That phrase is not found in none of the other three gospels, nor is it found in any other books of the New Testament until we get to the book of Revelation. This point is relevant as we seek to understand why we even have ( the Book of Acts ), If you’ll notice he says: ( both to do and, teach. Therefore, what was Jesus teaching? And, that beyond what he was doing? The Book of Acts shows us, teaches us what he was teaching. If you look or read on down in ( verse 3 ) you’ll see that he make this statement: ( things pertaining to the Kingdom of God ).

Jesus was teaching those things in the gospels. Just how many of the people caught what he was saying? And of those, even his disciples. Jesus made this statement in the gospel of John. ( John 6:45 ) It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

Can you see in that verse, it’s a difference in hearing and learning. We might spend a lot of time reading or, we might say; hearing but, how much time do we spend, learning?

We’ll get to this. In the next part. ( Act 1: 2-3 ) continued.

I BELIEVE

As a student of scripture, I believe that to understand the age in which we live in and, how it unfolds in time ; we must have a basic understanding of the ( Book of Acts ). The entire New Testament is all relative in that it all works together to bring us to the spiritual maturity level that we all need when we stand before God one day.

I’ve often said that the Bible has ( pivot points ). These points must be searched out and, we must allow God’s Spirit to guide us to the spiritual understanding we need in our spiritual walk through this life.

My desire as a teacher is to teach a basic understanding of the Book of Acts. Within that, to allow you, through my teaching to learn to grow beyond my teaching to a place of a perfect understanding of God’s Word. That’s my desire. With the help of the spirit of God we can all grow spiritually.

I’ll begin teaching the Book of Acts and, I be doing it verse by verse. As you watch you will see the different segments and verses as it unfolds on my blog. By God’s grace we will all grow spiritually together, one verse, one word at a time.

May God add his blessings to the ( studying ) of his word.

A NOTE TO MY PASTOR 3

In our last segment we were looking at the Apostle Paul and his commitment to hearing and obeying the spirit of God. The ability for each person to have the Holy Spirit came about at the beginning of the dispensation of God’s grace in the age to which we now live. We left of looking at some verses seen in ( Ephesians 3 ) where the Apostle Paul was explaining how that God, through his spirit had given him the mystery concerning the Church.

Every pastor in every Church must, if they expect to be effective in the salvation of other people, understand the concept of the working of God’s spirit and; his ability to allow that spirit to work through him as he preaches the messages he preaches. If not, we can have a Church full of people but void of the very spirit that is needed to carry the Church of Jesus Christ forward.

I can see how this concept was used, even before the Apostle Paul was saved. Look at these verses in ( Acts 8:31 ) And he said, how can I, except some man should guide me? And he desire Philip that he would come and sit with him. ( 32 ) The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before the shearer, so opened he not his mouth: ( 33 ) In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from this earth. ( 34 ) And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? ( 35 ) Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

If we read a little before this we will see where Philip was led by the Spirit to join this chariot. Because of his obedience of the spirit a man was born again. It’s very possible that Philip didn’t understand the very concept that led him but, he was still obedient to the voice within him.

As the dispensation these people lived in unfolded the Apostle Paul, shall we say; perfected this concept. He understood that he, himself could not cause any man to become right with God. He knew that the law or, the ability of any man to keep that law or to be taught to keep the law was not the answer to their spiritual problem.

With that being said; it takes the convicting power of the Holy Spirit of God to transform a man to the person that God desires for him to be. It is not just the ability of a man to live or, be taught to live a good life. The Apostle Paul was put in prison for teaching Jesus Christ. Often, from prison he wrote letters to the Churches he had started. He sought to continue to instruct them in the correct way to allow the Spirit to direct their footsteps.

Basically, what had happened in almost every Church he had started, corrupt teaching had set in. The question is: today, have we locked Jesus Christ up in a spiritual prison and, allowed corruption to set in in our Churches? One of the responsibilities of a pastor is to instruct in righteousness. How are we taught or instructed in what is righteous?

When we go out into the world and, the people of this world sees our ability to live and, they know we are members of a Church but, that’s all they see; what have they gained? Actually, they have gained nothing. The reason for that is that it’s not our righteousness they need to see. They need to be taught by us that the righteousness that we are dependent on the righteousness of Jesus Christ. We need to become teaches in our own right. Instructing people that if all we have is within our ability to live right, we have nothing. We are all sinners and deserve hell but, we are depending on the righteousness of Jesus Christ to afford eternal life.

When I say; we are taught ( right living ) is important, it is but, that is not what brings salvation to us or the people that see us living right. We have to, with our voice, exalt Jesus Christ and teach the world their need for his righteousness and not ours. When we leave people to believe that we are good, we leave the door open for the same people to see and look for our imperfections which we surely have. However, if we will simply admit that we are hell deserving sinners, unworthy of salvation but, we are totally depending on the righteousness of Jesus Christ for our salvation then, by that; we exalt the name of Jesus and reveal who we truly are.

When pastors preach ( right living ) and, only teach that aspect of our responsibilities then our whole Church becomes a self righteous sore spot on the community to which we serve. The problem is, no matter how much we present ourselves as Church members and righteous, people around us and, those that work with us already know who and what we are. Without exalting the name of Jesus Christ and his righteousness out of your mouth then what you call salvation is nothing to the people around you.

Pastors need to teach their people that; a college education or, a complete understanding of scripture is not needed to be a witness for Jesus Christ. I’ll give this verse as an example. ( John 9:25 ) He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

You can read the account of this man. Jesus had spit on the ground and made clay to put on this man’s eyes that were blind. He instructed him to go wash in the pool of Siloam, and he did, at that he was able to see. There’s a great and lengthy message in all of this but the short of it is that they man said: This one thing I know, I was blind but now I see.

We have a problem with that aspect of our spiritual walk. We won’t tell people that we were lost but, now we are saved. We tell them, if anything; we are members of a Church, we might even add that we have a good pastor. With that a good children’s program but nothing about Jesus Christ and how he is transforming our lives.

We need to be taught by our pastors to give Jesus credit for all of our salvation, It’s he that I trust to take me to heaven and, I know he will do that. It’s not in my ability to live good enough to go to heaven but, I’m trusting, by faith in his ability, what he has already done for me. In Him I trust and not in my own righteousness.

When we say ( we hope ) we go to heaven; what are we saying? We are saying that we are trusting in our own ability to be good enough to make it to heaven. We’re looking at it as Jesus was good enough to forgive our past sins but, his blood will not cover the sins I might commit after I’m saved therefore, I might not ask forgiveness for a sin I commit.

Pastors need to teach us the absolute truth of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ died for all sin. That means the sins of the Old Testament and, every sin that will ever be committed by any person that will ever live in the New Testament. I say this often, every sin of every person that is in hell right this minute is covered by the blood of Jesus Christ. Those that are in hell right now just never excepted Jesus Christ and his righteousness for the covering for their sin.

While that fact does not give any person a right to live in sin, it is a true fact. Once Jesus Christ is living in our hearts, the word of God as it is preached draws conviction on our hearts and causes a transformation toward him and away from sin. I don’t see these things being taught in the average local Church.

Pastors, I’m here to help; I’m not anyone’s enemy. However, I can see how that the people that actually lose in this are the members of our Churches and, their Children. Think about this, the Apostle Paul went to prison. From prison, he began to hear about the activities of the Churches he had started. He was not pleased with the reports he was getting. Therefore, he began to write letters to those Churches and, also send men he could trust to those Churches to ( set things in order ).

I, as a man that truly cares about the souls of men; share his burden. Look at these verses: ( Revelation 2:4-5 ) Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. ( 5 ) Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do thy first works, or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

When we speak of these verses and, their contents, to whom and to what are we speaking? The candlesticks are the pastors of the seven Churches. He says: they have lost their first love. What would that be? To make this point, I’ll use another verse. ( Philippians 3:8 ) Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.

Now, we must build a case for something here. This is what I see as a man that cares. Pastoring today, the candlestick in our Churches has become an occupation instead of a passion. If the light was ever there, it has gone out. When the Apostle Paul got saved in ( Acts 9 ); he was then commisioned by the Holy Spirit of God to lay the foundation for the Church; ( the age of Grace ) in which we still now live. Actually, the way it works today is still the very same way it was in the early days of the Church as far as the Spirit of God is concerned.

In the verse we read, the Apostle Paul gave his all to know Christ. His desire was to hear his voice; so to speak and, to write it all down that we might have a perfect understaning of who he is.

Look at this verse he was instructed by the Spirit to write. ( Hebrews 10:7 ) Then said I, Lo, I come ( in the volume of the book it is written of me, ) to do thy will, O God.

We now have a book. We call it the word of God. That book speaks. It is revealed by the spirit of God to any person that is will to ( give all ) to know Christ Jesus ).

Today our pastors are taught in universities and religious institutions. When, in reality, God simply desires for each pastor to pray, study his word and allow God the Spirit to speak to them and allow God, through that process to speak and convict his people.

In my own experience. my ( first love ) was knowing and understanding God’s word. I still have that same passion today. If we lose that passion, then we lose the desire to truly know Christ. We lose the ability to share him trufully with other people. The fire on the candlestick is gone out.

Do you remember Samson? What was it that he lost that made him lose his power? Was it not what was on the very top of himself, his hair? Can we relate that to the fire on a candlestick? That being on the very top? Samson, still the same man, a pastor still the same man but, both without any power.

Pastors, the word of God you hold in your hand is simply a book of words, stories. That is unless you allow the spirit of God to use you in the presentation of those words, those stories. The spirit is the power, the only power within those words.

Let’s look at one other group of verses and we’ll close. ( Matthew 5: 13-16 ) Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under the foot of men. ( 14 ) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hilltop cannot be hid. ( 15 ) Niether do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick, and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. ( 16 ) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven.

A Church is a city on a hilltop. It sits there for all to see. What good is it if the power is gone from it? The pastor is a man that gives light to all that is in that house. The people that are in that house is to take that light out of that house and spread it all throughout the community that God might get the glory.

I hear a lot about good Churches, good pastors but very little about Jesus Christ therefore, how does God get the glory in that?

THe flame on the pastor’s candle is gone and, the Church is getting all the attention. That is not what God intended for our Churches to be.

A NOTE TO MY PASTOR: 2

As I write this I’d like for it not to be just a note to my pastor but, a note to the pastor of any true born again believer. As a simple Church member, one that just has a desire to see and to be able to work with the man that stands behind the pulpit in my Church. The man that stands in the very place that Jesus Christ would stand if he were in the flesh and heading the Church that he gave his life for. We seldom consider this but, Jesus Christ is the only person that has the authority to walk into any Church and tell the pastor of that Church to stand aside; from this point on I’m in control.

There is no king, president, no other Church leader or no other Church official, not matter what his rank might be that can sit a pastor down other than Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ died and rose again for the Church, the body of Christ. We often get caught up in individualism. We like to think we are important and, salvation is a very personal relationship with Jesus Christ. However, it’s actually the Church that Jesus died and rose again for. We, as individuals are born into that body.

My pastor, your pastor stands where no man stands alone. He does not have the right to speak his opinion or even his own thoughts. We are talking about when he is standing behind his pulpit and delivering the message God has laid upon his heart. Starting with any pastor, he is not his own; just like every person he is speaking to that is a member of the body of Christ. We also are not our own. We don’t have the right to talk like we want to, act like we want to or dress like we want to. We also cannot believe like we want to.

The day my pastor asked Jesus Christ into his heart; he gave up that right. The day he surrendered to preach, he gave up his right to his own opinion. It’s now his responsibility to preach, to the best of his ability; the very message God lays upon his heart.

When a pastor does less than this, have you ever considered what he is actually doing? First of all, he is degrading the very pulpit he stands behind and also the very God that he says he serves. He is stopping the God of this universe from speaking to his own people. Secondly, he is leaving the people that He says he loves in darkness and bringing spiritual ignorance to the people of God. Thirdly, it’s very possible he is keeping the people that are lost in the darkness of this world because his thoughts or opinions cannot draw them out of that darkness.

WHO CAN BE A PASTOR?

Is this question something that members of the body should consider? Do we simply leave the qualifications of a pastor to the members of a Church? The very same Bible that we call ( God’s word ), the book that leads people to Christ also defines the qualifications of a pastor. Now, in making this statement; it does not mean that just because a person meets the physical qualifications of a pastor that; that same person has God’s hand on him does it? I. as an individual, born again believer might have to power of God all over me but, I might not meet the qualifications it takes to be a pastor of the Church that Jesus Christ died and rose again for. By the same token; just because a man meets all the qualifications to be a pastor does not mean that he has the power of God on him does it?

Since we are born again, that means that someone shared the gospel message to us and we, by faith asked Jesus Christ to be our savior. The holy Spirit, because of God’s word convicted our hearts and drew us to that saving grace. That act came from the word of God. if we are willing to trust our very salvation to the word of God; why wouldn’t we also trust the qualification of our pastor to that same book?

The members of the body of Christ, as well as any pastor can bring shame and reproach to God the Father by our very actions. It takes wisdom for a Church to pick a pastor, a man that will prepare you, one day; to stand before God. As any Church moves forward, the members of that Church must consider future generations, such as their own children and grandchildren. The people that are to come after us will also need truth and conviction from God’s word and, if we allow the man that pastors our Church to be less than all that God wants him to be then we tie the hands of the Spirit of God.

The Bible teaches us to: ( Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth ). ( 2 Timothy 2:15 )

Although the Bible does give distinct qualification for a pastor of any Church, it also teaches that the pastor should be filled with the spirit. If we read ( 1 Timothy 3:1-13 ) it gives the qualifications of a pastor and, also a deacon however, it actually doesn’t say anything about the spiritual aspect of his life.

I did notice that in ( acts 6:3 ) the Apostles tell the people to look for seven men of honest report, full of the holy ghost and of honest report. Here they didn’t say anything about them being married, having children or whether they ruled their own houses well. So, what is the point to be made? It takes study and, understanding how the spirit of God works in our lives and, that concerning scripture, our own requirements, spiritually speaking, as Church members.

For instance, can you as a Church member recognize the Holy Spirit in a man? Can you tell if he is filled with that spirit or not? How many people in your Church can you say have the wisdom to do that?

In our Churches today, we allow every member to vote on who will be our pastor. Is that a wise thing to do? In reality, today, our pastors are what the local Church says he should be and not necessarily, the spirit of God.

I realize that the verse we used in Acts is where we consider to be our instructions on picking deacons. As we look at theses verses it’s another thing we need to consider. Just because we read something in scripture does that mean that the act is spirit filled? Here in Acts for example; when the Apostles said that ( it was not meet that we should wait tables ), but that they should be studying scripture. And, at that they told the people to pick those men. Was that a move that was spirit lead? In scripture often we can learn ( what not to do ) as well as ( what things we should do ). It just takes spiritual wisdom to see those things.

Often now; we allow the children in our homes to rule the things that happen; do we not do the same in our Churches? If any member of any Church cannot recognize spiritual wisdom in a single member; why should they be allowed to vote on a pastor? When we allow children in our homes or, in our Churches to lead, we are not using wisdom. If you were ask, as a Church member to describe the responsibilities of a pastor, could you, by scripture answer that? If not, then why would you vote on any man?

THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF A PASTOR

We speak of being filled with the spirit of God. The head of every Church is actually Christ but, he speaks through the pastor; when the pastor is filled with God’s spirit. Can you see a ( chain of command ) beginning there? The pastor is the start of that chain. ( A chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link ). If that weak link is the pastor; what do we have? That means that all the power of God through his spirit and the blood of Jesus Christ breaks at the source of that power. If you hook a very powerful tractor to a chain and expect it to move a heavy load but, the chain breaks at the very first link; the load never moves does it? The rest of those links could have done wonderfully powerful things but, they never got tested for strength because the very first link gave way.

As I write this my heart and mind goes to the Apostle Paul. I always like to point out these verses. ( Acts 9:15-16 ) But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: ( 16 ) For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.

We could look at the Apostle as the very first pastor. And that, of every Church he started until another man was spiritually mature enough for him to move on and start another work. However, the reason I point this out is because of the awesome responsibility God laid upon his shoulders. We see this in ( Ephesians 3:1 ) For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, (2) If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: ( 3 ) How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; ( as I write afore in few words, ( 4 ) Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ ) ( 5 ) Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the spirit; ( 6 ) That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and the partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel: ( 7 ) Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.

If you will notice, this is all one sentence. The Apostle Paul is explaining how God, by his Spirit laid upon his shoulders the mystery as it is concerning the building of his Church, the bride of Jesus Christ.

What if the Apostle Paul would have considered the gift of hearing the Spirit of God as not important? Where would we be today? We often don’t consider the importance of simple things, simple gifts and abilities, and that, even of other people. The complete word of God had to come from somewhere. The understanding of all the parts of that one book has to also be considered and how that comes about. The Apostle Paul was a tremendous part of that. We live in that dispensation that he speaks of today.

Therefore, since the Apostle Paul understood the necessity of listening to God’s Spirit and obeying that self-same spirit; how does that relate to us today. I will seek to answer that in the ( Pastor 3 ) segment of this writing.

WINTER TIME IS COMING

ECCLESIASTES 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

What is the conclusion of all things? We are born, we live under the sun for a time and then we die. In most cases we live a somewhat long life. In every life there are seasons. There can be good times as well as bad. When we are young it appears that time is standing still and we wish for tomorrow. As teenagers we long to be a sixteen or to reach the age that we can drive, once we get there we long to get a job or finish high school, to get married or be on our own, to have children and the list goes on and on. Then one day we look and time is gone, it seems so short, much different than it was when we were young.

What does it all mean? What is the answer to the quest of life and what we face along the way? The name of this is ( winter time is coming ). My wife and I enjoy watching birds and small animals in our yard as they go about their day. Each of those birds or animals are preparing for the winter that; even they know is in front of them. Mankind is actually a lot like normal animals, we also need to prepare for the winter time of our lives.

I often think about my dad when I have this mindset. His dad died when he was only nine years old ( 1931 . The night he died, he laid in the dead where he died at home until the next day when they could get someone to come pick him up. There was his wife and all his children there to deal with his death. We don’t see things like that today do we? Everything is so convenient for us that we never experience the things that are important for us to understand as we grow and mature. We seldom see death because its hidden in a hospital where only a few people see it. All the ugliness of life is placed behind a wall of some sort to protect us from the reality we must face at some point.

In my life, I’ve seen to small sisters die; two years apart. Both of this coffins laid in the Livingroom of our house until their day of burial. Now, all those things are handled a funeral home far out of site.

Children today are raised in a way where they only see the good things of what we call life. All the bad things, at least as much as possible are kept out of sight and they never gain any knowledge of them and are totally not prepared for the things that must unfold in their lives.

This is just a couple of things that I thought of in trying to unfold the topic ( winter time is coming ). There are any number of things that we could speak of in general life that could be a topic of discussion but, my passion is helping people prepare for the spiritual aspect of their lives. I can see how physical knowledge of certain aspects of every life prepares us for the spiritual aspects of life, even as we live our lives out. Things such as a pet kitten or dog dying. That brings about a discussion about the death of people we love. It’s a teachable moment as they say.

I heard a man preaching a message once ask the people he was preaching to if it was anyone there that could say they had no trouble in their lives, no problems? After he made that statement he then said; if you can raise your hand and say; you have no problems, then just hold on because it right in front of you. The Bible says ( Man that is born of woman is of few days, and full of trouble ).( Job 14:1 ) So, it doesn’t matter whether you believe the word of God or not, that doesn’t change. That is the focus of this article. I want to some how take theses types of events in out lives and show or teach the preparation of eternal life. It has to take place while we are growing and maturing in our normal lives.

We are spiritual beings whether we except that fact or not. There are certain aspects of our lives that are going to come to pass no matter what out belief or trust might be in. For instance, the day you were born; you charted a course in your life toward death. Can you change that fact? We, as individuals cannot even change the fact that we were born.

I’d like to point out something in the ( book of Job ) the we seldom ever hear about. This is in ( Job 1:8 ): God , speaking to Satan asked him this question ( hast thou considered my servant Job? This is just part of what he said but I just wanted you to see that these two men being, God the Father and Satan are discussing about the man Job. High above whatsoever Job was actually doing; the two spiritual powers of this world and the heavens are talking and planning things around this one man. Is there anything Job could do to make that not happen? Not a thing. This was all a part of God, preparing Job for the fact that he would stand before him one day. We might not think so but, we need that preparation, we need to bring that about in our children.

The Bible says this: ( Hebrews 9:27 ) And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement: ( 28 ) So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

It says there that we all have an appointment and that unto death. Although we might face things in our life just as Job faced, things we could call the (winter time ) in our life, death doesn’t have to be one of them. It says that Christ was offered once for the sins of many. It also says that unto them that look for him; are you, at this moment looking for him? If you are, it says he shall appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

That second return is for those that are ( looking for him ). That means that through study and awareness that you are preparing for that day. Do you realize that even insects, animals prepare for wintertime? Yet, seemingly we, as people willingly step out into eternity without any preparation. Insects and animals work feverishly all summer long to prepare but, we waste our whole lives and never consider truly preparing for a day we know must come.

If you will study Job you will see that he had something in his life that God wanted him to see. It took all that he went through for him to be able to see that one sin. The blessing is that he did see it and corrected it. We always want to see the bad in things that happen in our lives when, it’s very possible that they are stumbling blocks in our lives that God placed there that our spiritual eyes might be opened.

No matter what you have faced in this life, how bad you might think its been. It will be nothing compared to the wintertime you will face if you face death without Christ in your life.

You must prepare to meet him ( ye must be both again ).
